NEW BUFFALO, Mich. (AP) — An Amtrak train heading to Chicago with 200 passengers derailed after striking an unoccupied vehicle and a tow truck in southwestern Michigan, authorities said Friday.“The engineer and approximately 10 passengers received non-life threatening injuries and were treated by local ambulance services,” the Berrien County sheriff’s office said.The train derailed but remained upright.The crash happened Thursday evening near New Buffalo in Michigan’s southwestern corner, about 70 miles (110 kilometers) east of Chicago.The vehicle was stuck on the tracks and was being removed when the train hit it and the tow truck, the sheriff’s office said. Two or three people at the scene dashed for safety.“With the lights, they could tell the train was coming. A woman was taken to the hospital after crashing into an Amazon Fresh grocery store in Chevy Chase, Maryland, on Friday afternoon.The incident started in a gated parking lot of “The Collection,” a group of shops and restaurants that includes the Amazon Fresh. A woman who was in the lot told WTOP that before 1 p.m., the driver of a white Mercedes sedan hit a parked car, then reversed into a concrete planter, pushing it back several feet and damaging a fence in the process.Then, the witness told WTOP the woman drove forward at a high rate of speed through the parking lot, smashing through a parking barrier arm, over a curb and into a collection of shopping carts sitting at the Amazon Fresh storefront. The woman who saw what happened said the driver was going as fast as 40 to 50 mph through the parking lot.Montgomery County Fire and Rescue took the woman to the hospital via ambulance. (AP) — The Colorado Rapids have brought in Chris Armas as their new permanent coach after Robin Fraser was let go in September.Armas has been an assistant coach in the Premier League the last few seasons, first with Manchester United (2021-22) and then with Leeds United (2023). He brings nearly two decades of Major League Soccer experience as a player and coach to Colorado.The 51-year-old Armas takes over a Rapids team that finished last in the Western Conference. The managers of a Worcester-based group adult foster care company have been indicted in connection with an alleged $1.6 million Medicaid fraud scheme, according to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office.Union Home Health Care Services’ managers were arrested on Thursday and charged with allegedly defrauding MassHealth of more than $1.6 million, Attorney General Andrea Campbell’s Office announced.Worcester residents Bernice Codjia, 39, and Augustus Kormah, 66, were indicted by a Worcester County grand jury. Their company, Union Home Health Care Services, was also indicted.Each defendant was charged with Medicaid false claims.
